To what extent can ultranationalism lead to crimes against humanity, War crimes and/or Genocide?
When nationalism becomes too intense, nations often become very passionate for their well-being and take great action. Unfortunately, this often leads nations to a hatred of other nations. In order to promote the superiority and strength of an ultra-nationalistic nation, crimes against humanity and genocide take place. There have been many examples of this in history from the Holocaust to Holodomor to Rwanda. History tends to repeat itself again and again in regards to the effects of ultranationalism. Ultranationalism is defined as “Extreme nationalism that promotes the interest of one state or people above all others.”, this is where the difference between nationalism and ultranationalism lies. Having ultranationalistic feelings almost implies a desire to commit crimes against other humanities or to initiate genocide upon other nations.
